MOSINEE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is looking into an allegation of someone becoming sick as a result of a Blue-Green Algae bloom. A Blue Green Algae bloom is a photosynthesis-fueled organism that can cause sickness and even death in humans and animals. Blooms are typically created by an increase in algae cells caused by wind, warm water, and sunlight. Blue Green Algae has characteristics comparable to pea soup or the appearance of spilled paint above water. Other rivers and waterways surrounding the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir are now being monitored by health experts.
